Valentine Safety

Love is in the air!

Many people use online dating sites, apps, or blind dates set up by friends to meet people for dates. 49th Street Bail Bonds wants to educate daters on how to stay safe and have fun.

Here are a few tips for staying safe when meeting your date for the first time:

•Always inform a friend of your plans. Let them know the first and last name of the person you are meeting, where you are meeting, and what your plans are for the date.
•Plan to check in with your friend via a text or phone call to let your friend know that you are okay. You can do this with a pre-arranged phone time or text them discreetly from the bathroom.
•Have a code word to let your friend know if something is wrong. That way, if your date is listening to your conversation, he/she won’t realize that you are informing your friend that you need help.
•Always meet in a public place! Good choices are a restaurant or coffee place.
•Provide your own transportation. Never have your date pick you up at your home or place of business.
•Make sure you have your cell phone with you and that it is charged.
•Go on a group date so that you have back-up.
•Don’t give out too much personal information on your first date such as your home address and where you work.
•Do not leave your drink or personal belongings unattended. Yes, it might be a bit paranoid but remember you are meeting a total stranger. Better safe than sorry.
•Do not get drunk. Watch your alcohol intake or don’t drink alcohol at all.
•If you feel uncomfortable or threatened, then don’t be afraid to leave. You need to put your personal safety first. If need be, enlist the help of the waiter/bartender. Always trust your instincts!
•Bring enough money to pay for your own coffee, meal, ride home, etc. Better to be able to pay and walk away then to rely on someone else.
•Do not go home with them.
•If there is a first kiss involved, kiss outside the car so that you don’t risk getting trapped in the car.
