Sex Trafficking and Super Bowl

Super Bowl, Law Enforcement, Arrests Made!

Sex trafficking made the news during Super Bowl LIII this year. Unfortunately Atlanta, Georgia is considered to be “one of the biggest hubs of sex trafficking nationwide” according to WTOL News. Prior to the Super Bowl, there was an increase in reports of sex trafficking happening causing many police departments to pull together to track down and arrest those involved in sex trafficking. Due to their diligence, the police ended up arresting 40 people involved in sex trafficking.

Along with the sex trafficking bust, many anti-trafficking groups were out trying to educate the public about sex trafficking. The group S.O.A.P. (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution) was visiting hotels and handing out bars of soap and make-up remover with the message, “Are you being forced to do anything you do not want to do? Have you been threatened if you try to leave? Have you witnessed young girls being prostituted? If so, please call 1-888-373-7888.” That number is the number of the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Police, hotel staff, and airline workers have all received additional training on how to spot human trafficking.

Local media agencies across the United States are helping to expose the huge problem of sex trafficking nationally in an effort to help law enforcement crack down on this growing problem. With the help of the general public and learning the signs of sex trafficking more victims can be saved. Penalties are very severe for those actually doing the trafficking.
