Crooks & Chips!

How Many Days Till Your Chip Can Be Used Everywhere?

Scamming information from credit cards and bank cards has been easy for thieves. Because of this and to increase security, the new micro-chip enabled credit and debit cards have been introduced. These cards help thwart thieves because they create a unique code that cannot be reused for each transaction. The swipe cards just stored data that remained the same and was easy to copy. However, thieves have caught on and are now relying on an old scam to get information. 49th Street Bail Bonds wants you to be aware that there is a new way that thieves are targeting consumers.

Quite a few people are still waiting for their new chip enabled cards. Thieves know this and have been sending emails and making phone calls to consumers in order to steal information. The thieves are pretending to be the bank or credit card company and telling people that they need to “verify” personal information in order to send out the new cards. They are asking people to update their information such as bank account numbers so that they can send out the new cards. Email queries even have a link that if clicked could end up installing malware on a person’s computer and making them more vulnerable to identity theft. Do not provide any personal information over the phone or email unless you have solicited the email or call. If in doubt, check with your bank or credit card company. Don’t become a victim of credit card theft or identity theft.

Identity theft is a crime. Charges that could result from being charged with identity theft include being charged with a felony, being fined, and facing jail time. People who use this information to obtain property could be charged with larceny. 49th Street Bail Bonds is here to help if you or a loved one are charged with a misdemeanor or felony.
