Mass Shooting – Las Vegas

Another mass shooting incident has taken place. 49th Street Bail Bonds offers our deepest condolences to the friends and families that had loved ones injured or killed in this massacre. Unfortunately, these mass shootings are becoming more and more common.

Do you know what to do in the event that this situation happens to you?

49th Street Bail Bonds offers these tips to help you survive a mass shooting:

•Mentally prepare yourself before the situation occurs. Every time you enter a building, attend a concert, see a movie, eat at a restaurant, etc. look around and plan how you would exit in the event of an emergency. Where are the exits, can you go through a back door, is there an alley? Being mentally prepared will help you take action in the event of a shooting situation
•Try and stay calm though that is difficult
•Run. If you can, then run away from the shooter. Leave your belongings and run. Bring others with you if you can. If you have small children with you, drag, carry, or get them away any way possible.
•If you can’t run and are trapped outside, such as in the Las Vegas incident, then make yourself into the smallest target possible. Curl up into a ball. When there is a break in the shooting, run!
•If you can’t run and are trapped then hide. Hide in an area where you can escape preferably a room with a window, door, or patio. Barricade yourself in this room. Turn off the lights, have someone call 911 and then silence all electronic devices. Fortify the door with furniture or whatever is around. Be very quiet. Look for items that could be used as weapons in case you need to fight.
•If you are hiding in an area that can’t be barricaded, then find cover or concealment. Put yourself out of the shooter’s vision. Hide behind furniture.
•In the case of the Las Vegas shooting, there weren’t room options to hide in. The best bet there is to hide behind something such as a car. Make sure to hide behind the engine block since it is able to block bullets better than a car door or trunk.
•The last resort is to fight. Be prepared to attack the shooter and commit to the attack. Enlist others to help you. Work with other people to create distractions. Use any weapon that you can. Aim high and try and hurt the shooter in the eyes, face, or arms.

Other Tips

The police will arrive. However, before they get there, it is up to you to stay alive. Once the police are there, be prepared to exit with your hands up. This way the police know you aren’t the threat. Do not leave your hiding spot until the police come and get yet. Obey the instructions of the police. If you are running from the shooter, then head in the direction that the police came from. If you have any information regarding the shooter then tell a police officer.
