Labor Day Weekend Safety

Labor Day weekend is here!

The weekend is full of fun things to do such as road tripping to your favorite destination, biking, going out on your boat, celebrating with friends and family at a barbeque or party, or going to the beach.

49th Street Bail Bonds hopes you keep your weekend fun by following these tips to stay safe and out of jail:

•If you are going on a road trip, make sure that your car is in tip top shape before heading out. Buckle up, leave early and have your GPS set for your destination. Be advised that there will be more drivers on the road. These drivers might cut you off, tailgate you, or slow down in front of you. Don’t become engaged in road rage. Instead, take a deep breath and go with the flow.

•Maybe you are biking to your destination instead. If so, make sure that everyone wears a helmet. Follow the rules of the road. Wear light colored or reflective clothing. Be aware that there are more drivers on the road and these drivers might not be paying attention to you. Be extra cautious.

•If you are going boating, make sure that everyone on the boat is wearing a life jacket. Advise someone of your plans and check in so they know that you made it to your destination. Check the weather before your departure. Avoid alcohol. Boating under the influence is a crime. Know how to swim. Check out your boat to make sure it complies with safety regulations. Know boating safety and the rules of the water.

•Parties are fun but also come with perils. Stay a safe distance away from the barbecue and make sure children are not near it. If there is a pool, have a designated person acting as lifeguard. Be careful of alcohol intake. Too much alcohol can change a person. They can become mean or agitated and start a fight over a trivial matter.

•If you are heading to the ocean, make sure to monitor the weather. Understand what the posted beach flag means. Know how to swim. Wear an approved life jacket if you are a weak swimmer. Swim by the lifeguard. Never swim alone. Beware of lightning. Know how to get out of a rip current. Monitor children. Wear sunscreen. Stay hydrated. Stay sober.
